Sorting Out Differences Between DSpace or Fedora Repositories and Content Management Systems

Institutional repositories and content management systems (CMS) hold and manage multiple types of content for a variety of purposes. To understand the differences between the two systems DuraSpace offers an analysis that highlights both similarities and differences for those who are making choices with regard to establishing a CMS such as Drupal, an open source repository system such as DSpace or Fedora, or a hybrid of both such as Islandora.

Open Access to Knowledge Issues Highlighted in the UK

On April 9 The Guardian highlighted controversy around rising costs of academic journals in an article, "Academic spring: how an angry maths blog sparked a scientific revolution." Issues around the high cost of sharing knowledge through proprietary publishers at the expense of institutions and individuals who create knowledge were laid out.

The Hydra Partners held their quarterly meeting at Stanford March 28-30. Early votes tallied during the proceedings showed attendees favoring a meeting that focused on social cohesion followed by community and technical roadmapping along with partner updates.

LibDevConX^3 was held at Stanford March 26-28. Participants included 35 developers from different institutions descending on Palo Alto to share strategies and technologies across projects.
