DuraSpace Sponsorship Program Update

From Thorny Staples, Director of Community Strategy and Alliances, Director of the Fedora Project, DuraSpace

Ithaca, NY In May of this year DuraSpace launched its first Sponsorship Program to engage leaders from university and library communities in supporting the organization’s ongoing mission. The program is off to a good start! As of today, a total of $174,000 in financial support has been committed by our community members. The list of contributors so far can be seen below. In addition to supplying the funds to cover about 25% of our operating costs on an on-going basis, the Sponsorship Program is designed to provide DuraSpace with a large number of active partners in our mission to preserve the world’s intellectual, cultural and scientific information by providing technologies and services that help to ensure that digital content is accessible over the long term.

In order for us to maintain our 501(c)(3) status as a non-profit organization, we must show that we are not funded by only a few large companies or institutions. This first year of the program is a particularly challenging time for us, as our grant funding winds down and the offering of our new cloud-based service, DuraCloud, ramps up, so we will definitely appreciate all the contributions that we can get. We have passed the halfway mark towards reaching our first-year goal of $300,000 in just two months. Please keep those cards and letters (and emails) coming, folks! We very much appreciate your support.
