Edwin Shin to Lead New and Improved Fedora Repository Platform Initiative

Winchester, MA  The DuraSpace organization is pleased to announce an agreement with Registered Service Provider MediaShelf (http://yourmediashelf.com/) to hire Edwin Shin (http://yourmediashelf.com/who-we-are/edwin-shin/) on an interim basis as Fedora Project Lead.  Eddie will work with DuraSpace and a committee of stakeholders who recently got together to define a software project for making substantial improvements to Fedora through mid-year.

Winchester, MA  The DuraSpace organization is pleased to announce that Tom Cramer has accepted an appointment to the DuraSpace Board of Directors. 
 

DuraSpace Receives Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation Grant to Develop Cloud Services for Data Management and Archiving

Winchester, MA DuraSpace announced today that their organization has been awarded a 2-year, $861,000 grant from The Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation. The grant is in support of extending the DuraCloud services (http://www.duracloud.org) an online cloud based service, for the long term preservation and stewardship of research and other scholarly content.

CALL: Proposals for ALCTS Metadata Interest Group at ALA Midwinter, Deadline Nov. 9

Columbus, Ohio  The ALCTS Metadata Interest Group invites proposals for presentations at its meeting at the 2013 ALA Midwinter Meeting in Seattle, Washington, on Sunday, January 27th from 8:30 to 10:00 am.
 
Presentations focusing on current topics and practices that relate to the role of preservation metadata in digital preservation are preferred. Possible topics include, but are not limited to:
 
• Tools and workflows for capturing preservation metadata
• Tools and strategies for implementing preservation metadata

Winchester, MA  Earlier this year the DuraSpace organization launched its third annual Sponsorship Program, encouraging all institutions using the DSpace and Fedora open source technologies to contribute financially to the not for profit entity which provides leadership and support for these platforms. Thanks to our community we raised $417,750 in this year's campaign, with $223,750 coming from the DSpace community, $173,000  from the Fedora community and $21,000 from institutions who do not use either DSpace or Fedora, but who recognize the critical role DuraS
