CALL: Open Repositories 2011 (OR11) to Focus on Collaboration and Community

Austin, Texas What role do social interactions play within repository technical communities in developing distributed services and cyberinfrastructure that help create open access to and preservation of our shared digital heritage? The Sixth Annual International Conference on Open Repositories (OR11) communities will address that question in the state capital of Texas, Austin, often billed as "The Live Music Capital of the World,” from June 8-11, 2011 at the AT&T Conference Center.

DuraCloud + DSpace@MIT: Easy Cloud Access for Collection Managers and Curators

Ithaca, NY How, exactly, do collections of digital resources get parked in a "cloud"? There's  a lot of chatter about cloud storage particularly among higher education IT groups looking to save money on data storage [1], but for those accustomed to hands-on hard drives and racks of processors the idea of looking for sturdy digital back-up and customized services from something as ephemeral-sounding as a "cloud" does not compute.

Smithsonian Institution to Host DC Fedora Users Meeting Jan. 18

Washington, DC Thornton Staples, Director of Research and Scientific Data Management, Office of the CIO, Smithsonian Institution, has announced that the Smithsonian Institution will host the next Fedora Users Meeting as part of an occasional series of Fedora Users meetings for the Washington DC region, which includes Maryland and Virginia. All of you in Charlottesville and Baltimore, please take note! Anyone else is welcome as well, but the goal of these meetings to bring people from the greater DC region together to see if we can get some collaboration going.

Fedora Repository Source Code Now Available on GitHub

Ithaca, NY Chris Wilper, Technical Lead, Fedora Repository Project, DuraSpace has announced that the Fedora Commons Repository source code has been fully migrated to GitHub, where you can collaborate with others, fork, send pull requests and manage public and private git repositories using a fast, efficient, distributed version control system ideal for the collaborative development of software. Currently 500,000 people hosting over 1,502,000 git repositories.
