Report from the DC Region Fedora Users Meeting

Ithaca, NY On October 14, 2011 the DC Region Fedora Users Group held their semi-annual meeting in Washington, DC to exchange information on formative Fedora repository projects and inititatives. While highlights included lunch from the Hula Girl Truck ("bringing a taste of the Hawaiian Islands to DC") 13 projects and 38 attendees were on hand to share updates about how Fedora repository software is being implemented in government and cultural institutions.

New York, NY Ithaka S+R, with funding from the JISC-led Strategic Content Alliance, revisited twelve digital projects first profiled in 2009 to understand the impact of the economic downturn on each project’s sustainability model. Ithaka S+R will be releasing a final report, a toolkit, and offering a series of free webinars in October 2011.

How “Big” are DSpace Repositories?

Ithaca, NY Determining how many resources will be managed in an institutional repository is a key point in determining how to set it up and which technologies to use. A discussion on the DSpace users list provided information about DSpace repositories with large numbers of items. The discussion began with the simple question, "Anyone know what is the largest repository of DSpace and how many items it has?"

DuraCloud Video Pilot Kick-Off Meeting

Cambridge, MA On August 4, 2011, the DuraCloud team kicked off the DuraCloud Video Pilot Project with a one day meeting with pilot institutions the Massachusettes Institute of Technology (MIT) and WGBH Boston. The goal of the DuraCloud Video Pilot is to have a robust video offering embedded in the DuraCloud platform that will be available to the public through the DuraCloud service.
