Why Preservation Matters: "We Need to Remember, Period."

Winchester, MA  Digitization of fragile film and video resources is the first step towards making sure they are preserved into the future. Yale University's department of Manuscripts and Archives published an example of a video from The Fortunoff Video Archive Holocaust Testimonies, a historic collection of over 4,400 videotaped interviews with witnesses and survivors of the Holocaust, to demonstrate how important it is not only to digitize video resources, but to do it as soon as possible.

DuraCloud September and October Brown Bag Sessions

Each month Carissa Smith, DuraCloud Partner Specialist, conducts a brief webinar discussing a topic of interest to DuraCloud customers and individuals interested in using the cloud for preservation and archiving. September's DuraCloud Brown Bag session detailed ways in which DuraCloud can be used to help solve a variety of use cases. DuraCloud Spotlighted in the Digital Insider from the State of North Carolina

In the fall issue of the Digital Insider: Digital Information News from the State Library of North Carolina, Lisa Gregory highlights how the State Library has adopted DuraCloud to "assist with the ongoing preservation of and access to digital state government publications." The State of North Carolina began using DuraCloud in the summer and has since been able to preserve over 300,000 files in DuraCloud. She notes that getting the content into DuraCloud using several of the provided tools "was simple."

ORCID (Open Researcher and Contributor ID) Announces Registry Launch

ORCID  (Open Researcher and Contributor ID) has launched its Registry (http://orcid.org), where researchers can distinguish themselves by creating a unique profile and personal identifier for themselves.
