WEBINAR RECORDING: Research Data Management Support:DataONE-Tools and Approaches for Supporting the Data Life Cycle

Winchester, MA On November 15, William Michener, Professor and Director of e-Science Initiatives at the University of New Mexico presented “DataONE: Tools and Approaches for Supporting the Data Life Cycle” to participants in the DuraSpace/ARL/DLF E-Science Institute. In this webinar, Bill discussed how to help researchers address the key challenges with the data life cycle: planning, presevation, discovery and innovation. From building a data management plan to collecting and documenting the data to preserving and analyzing, there are tools and collaborations going on around the world. One such collaboration highlighted was DataONE, a fedrated data network built to improve access to Earth science data, but the presentation includes several other tools and approaches. The recording is available at

"New Lines of Business for Libraries" presented by Mike Furlough will be the last webinar offered as part of the pre-recorded Hot Topics "Research Data Management Support" webinar series and will be available next month.

The E-Science Institute helps academic and research libraries develop a strategic agenda for e-research support, with a particular focus on the sciences. The Institute consists of a series of interactive modules that take small teams of individuals from academic institutions through a dynamic learning process to strengthen and advance their strategy for supporting computational scientific research. The coursework begins with a series of exercises for teams to complete at their institutions, and culminates with an in-person workshop. Current E-Science Institute sessions began in September and conclude in December.
