Executive Leadership

As leaders and innovators in digital preservation and access communities the DuraSpace executive team helps plan for the success and sustainability of the DSpace and Fedora projects.

Strategic Direction

DuraSpace helps project community leaders define a strategy and make decisions on allocating resources to pursue a path towards sustainability. Setting a vision and a strategy, working with the stakeholders in the community to help advance the platforms and make them sustainable,creating a roadmap

Funding

DuraSpace strives to bring in multiple funding streams to ensure that projects are sustainable in the long run.

Advocacy

DuraSpace helps project steering committees develop strategies for self-promotion, attracting users and contributors, lining up institutional references, seeking additional funding, etc.

Collaborations

Participate on initiatives that our community want us to be aligned with (e.g., DPN, APTrust, DPLA)

Partnerships

DuraSpace increases our effectiveness through realizes efficiences by cultivating partnerships with complementary organizations.  (e.g., DLF to offer ESI, Chronopolis - offer services neither org could offer on its own; Internet2 - offer cloud services to higher education

Technical Leadership

As leaders and innovators in digital preservation and access communities the DuraSpace executive team helps plan for the success and sustainability of the DSpace and Fedora projects.

Developer Resources

DuraSpace provides technical infrastructure, including  a project wiki, issues tracker, and continuous integration system for projects.

Technical Collaboration

DuraSpace convenes designers, developers and architects across a wide range of open source technologies to provide consulting support and assistance to projects

Mentoring

New developers and committers receive mentoring on best practices for open source development and governance

Documentation

DuraSpace facilitates creation and maintenance of documentation and other wiki resources

Technical Leadership

Dedicated staff provides leadership of developers and committers, helping with consensus building, publishing release schedule, developing the technical road-map, and consulting on technical issues

Community Outreach

DuraSpace helps projects form effective project governance structures, recommends appropriate governance models, and consults with projects in need of support.

Peer Support

DuraSpace serves as a catalyst by convening peers who share common interests in technology, preservation and archiving, repository management, research and discovery, and open access.  Workshop and teleconference attendees are able to see what colleagues are doing in areas of similar interest and to share experiences and support. DuraSpace supports project initiatives that grow out of these activities

Fund Raising

DuraSpace manages annual fund raising campaigns for projects

Community Awareness

DuraSpace builds community awareness for its projects and creates and maintains a registry of users

Community Programs

DuraSpace facilitates and encourages programs for the promotion and xxxxxx of project communities (e.g., DCAT, User Groups, Ambassador Program)

Communications

Strategic Communications

The DuraSpace team facilitates strategic communications with project stakeholders.  In the interests of transparency, the team exchanges information and solicits input from sponsors, committers, service providers, and funders.

Reflect press releases out through DuraSpace lists (7,000+), web sites, the DuraSpace Digest (7,000+) and DuraSpace twitter feeds (2,500+)

Co-author press releases

International Exposure

DuraSpace promotes projects to a large international community of institutions that may be interested in adoption

Contributors

New projects are exposed to a large, existing community of developers who will potentially assist on technical matters or be attracted as contributors

Recognition and Brand

DuraSpace’s experience and track record offers the credibility and reputation that will encourage institutional deployments of open source products and increased participation in projects

Ongoing news and information development and dissemination 

Staff consults to external project staff on blog entries, twitter feeds, presentations, press releases, screencasts, etc

Webinars

Projects are able to participate in DuraSpace’s curated “Hot Topics” webinar series, which attracts a large audience of professionals to presentations offered on a robust, full-featured webinar platform; other informational and tool demo webinars are occasionally scheduled as well

Business Development

DuraSpace experts look for ways to make businesses using our technologies successful.

Registered Service Provider Program

DuraSpace helps recruit commercial service providers interested in supporting and maintaining local product implementations.  Revenue from the DuraSpace Registered Service Provider Program supplements institutional sponsorship to support umbrella services for projects.

Business Planning

DuraSpace will help investigate and plan for business opportunities yielding revenue from services related to projects.

Administration 

Projects without organizational affiliation will benefit from several types of DuraSpace administrative support.
