For Your Repository Viewing Pleasure: Easter Island People from University of Hawai' i at Manoa
Honolulu, HI eVols is the open access DSpace repository developed and managed by the at Manoa's Hamilton Library. As part making a wide range of cultural and heritage resources from research collections of partner institutions available, the University of Hawai'i at Manoa has collaborated on The Oceana Digital Library Project (http://www.oceania-digital-library.org/project/) since 2007 to digitize, preserve and provide access to resources from the subregions of Melanesia, Micronesia, and Polynesia. The University of Hawai'i at Manoa is a 2010 and 2011 DuraSpace Bronze Sponsor.
Early photographs from Rapanui: The Edmunds/Bryan Photographic Collection: 1904-1929 (http://libweb.hawaii.edu/digicoll/rapanui/index.html) provide unique insights into peoples' lives on Rapanui, or Easter Island, during the early 1900s: http://libweb.hawaii.edu/digicoll/rapanui/peopleGroupsPg1.html. Unique notations on the back of each photograph are also preserved in this collection.
eVols is continuing to make unique resources available with funds provided by the Greater Western Library Alliance (GWLA) Board funds for the digitization of Hawai'i's historical water materials.The first 33 titles processed via the grant are now available in the Library's eVols digital collection repository: http://evols.library.manoa.hawaii.edu/handle/10524/11858/browse?type=title.
Among those involved in the project are: Beth Tillinghast and Jodie Mattos (project coordinators), Karen Brown and Alice Kim (project assistants), and Daniel Ishimitsu (Dspace programmer).
The Greater Western Library Alliance (GWLA) is a consortium of 32 research libraries located across 17 Midwestern & Western states with common interests in programs related to scholarly communication, inter-library loan, shared electronic resources, cooperative collection development, digital libraries, staff development and continuing education. Twenty-five GWLA libraries are also members of the Association of Research Libraries (ARL).
