Digitisation and Digital Preservation Workshop

To share information about digitisation of library collections, digitisation project management, and digital preservation ITOCA, the News Media Section of IFLA (International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions) in partnership with the IFLA Preservation and Conservation Regional Centre for Southern Africa, University of Nairobi, Digital Divide Data, and DuraSpace, will offer a Digitisation and Digital Preservation Workshop, November 6-9, 2018, at the University of Nairobi, Nairobi, Kenya.
The main goal of the workshop is to to increase participants’ knowledge about digitisation of library collections, digitisation project management and digital preservation.

More specifically, the general topics that will be covered include:
1. Review of the OAIS reference model
2. Review of digitization programs from around the world
3. Selection of materials
4. Review of standards for digitized materials
5. Digitization workflow
6. Project management, quality assurance and acceptance criteria
7. Digital preservation considerations
8. Digitization tools, open source and commercial
9. Hands-on activities
10. Using AgEcon search, international database.
The workshop will focus on the general topics of digitisation and preservation. Open source repositories play a key role in preserving and disseminating digitized content. For this reason, DuraSpace staff members have been invited to virtually present a general update of related activities (Michele Mennielli), and a more specific update of DSpace activities, including a DSpace 7 preview (Tim Donohue).
