HykuDirect is a web-based, digital content repository service that provides robust deposit workflows, standards-based metadata management, convenient collection organization, preservation support, as well as integrated search, discovery, and access capabilities, all within a completely managed hosting environment. HykuDirect handles all of the server and storage provisioning, all of the software installation, deployment, and upgrades, and all of the scaling concerns so that your focus can stay on your content.
The HykuDirect service was made possible by a generous grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) to fund a project led by The Digital Public Library of America (DPLA), Stanford University, and DuraSpace. Together, and in collaboration with their communities, these organizations extended the existing best-in-class Hydra project codebase to build, bundle, and promote a feature-complete, robust digital repository system. The result of this work was Hyku, a next-generation digital repository software system designed to meet the needs of institutions of all sizes. Hyku continues to be developed by an engaged open source community, ensuring that new features and integrations are added which will satisfy the needs of those who produce, manage and use digital cultural heritage content. HykuDirect is a hosted service offered by DuraSpace, in collaboration with its partners, which is based on the Hyku repository software.
