From Michele Mennielli, International Business Developer 4Science
The New Year had a great start for 4Science and we are happy to share some of the good news with our Community. Starting with our add-ons, the demo for the Video/Audio Streaming module is now available. The module embraces the DASH protocol using a full open source stack. It allows to view in “adaptive streaming” the most common audio/video formats and codec. Indeed the Add-on automatically converts such formats into MP4. Other destination formats such as FLV can be easily plugged-in.
Our developers also worked on new enhancements for all the other Add-ons provided by 4Science:
Modulo IIIF Image Viewer: it is now available the multilevel Table Of Contents (TOC) management, that permits easy and fast navigation within the digital contents.
Modulo Document Viewer: now it automatically creates the TOC from the PDF bookmarks.
Modulo OCR Transcription: the integration with the IIIF Image Viewer Module and the Document Viewer Module has been improved. Now the text content of an image and/or a pdf document is shown on a control panel allowing a side by side navigation.
Since the beginning of the year, two important organisations have chosen 4Science has a partner:
The Lama Tzong Khapa Institute (ILTK), among the most important centres of the Foundation for the Preservation of the Mahayana Tradition, owns a great collection of the Tibetan tradition and culture: paper and digital texts and images, audio and video content. The Institute chose DSpace-CRIS and 4Science for the management, preservation and dissemination of its important archive.
To conclude a successful month, 4Science will attend the 13th Italian Research Conference on Digital Libraries (IRCDL 2017), to present its activities on how to extend DSpace to fulfil the requirements of Digital Libraries for Cultural Heritage Management.
